A credit union built by coffee and community
Dreamed up over coffee
Like many good ideas, Coastal Community Credit Union started over coffee and conversation. In May 1946, group of Islanders met to envision a different way of banking.
Started in a bike shop
Their idea involved putting people’s needs first and using local money to do local good. A year later, “Nanaimo & District Credit Union” opened for business in the corner of a bicycle shop.
Grown with people power
Since those humble beginnings, Coastal Community has grown through mergers and acquisitions, including our merger with Integris Credit Union on January 1, 2026. We’ve come a long way.
